Power Tools For Gazebo Installation Projects
This Power Wrench works Great for the columns/posts and the roof bolts and lock nuts to make assembly faster. Assemblyhub.us uses this exact tool. Its power and toque is great for this work and many other projects you might have and its battery power, lasts for a long time, on one charge we can Assemble 18 to 20 Gazebo per 1 charge. We only use it for the posts and roof panels.
The two sockets you would use for the posts and roof panels, are 13mm & 11mm .
You will also need a power drill for the posts to, because you will need to install pan and wood screws in them, for the anchoring brackets. A mallet and/or hammer to insert t-nuts in columns. reinsert it, not all the way and start the connection of the bolt , then use the power tool to tighten down. Remember to make sure bracket is flat, with bottom of post, before tighten bolt and screws.

Why The Costco Gazebo
We did a major backyard overhaul five years ago. One of the top items on my wishlist was some kind of covered outdoor living room with comfy seating. I wanted to lay on the couch and read a book in the shade while the kids played.
At first, I was thinking a pergola. But the more we talked, the idea of an actual roof sounded more practical. This is Seattle, after all. It rains, even in the summer months.
I was strolling through Costco one day, when I spotted the cedar gazebo they had set up, It was love at first sight. I bought the last kit they had, borrowed my dads truck to get it home, and went to work getting the site ready.

The Problem Our Concrete Backyard
This house has a good size yard, but it seems like the majority of it is covered with concrete. I wasnt thrilled about that when we first saw the house, but in living here Ive realized that we actually use that space more than I expected.
It makes a great roller skating rink, and the perfect basketball court. Mind you, none of us are naturals with a basketball , but it gives us something fun and active to do together.
To give the sprawling concrete jungle a little more definition, I decided to invest in a pergola. We chose one with a complete cover, which I think technically means its a gazebo.
We wanted shade , architectural interest, and colors that look natural and compliment our house.I think we found exactly what we wanted with this 12 by 14 gazebo by Yardistry.

Preparing The Gazebo Site
If youve already got a nice level patio or deck, then great! This will be easy.
If, like me, you want to put your Costco gazebo in a less than level spot, youre going to have some work to do. The spot we chose on the edge of our yard seemed relatively flat until we got the level out.
Without going into too much painful detail, we built wood forms and poured four cement blocks to support the cedar gazebo posts. Once the concrete was set, we built a border for the patio using landscape stackers- and we had to build it up at least 18 inches on the fence side.
We lined the area with weed paper and filled it in with crushed gravel to create a patio. The gravel comes up to the top of the cement blocks. I chose crushed gravel for the patio because it was a cheaper alternative to pavers or cement.
I cover most of the patio with a plastic outdoor rug in the spring and summer, so its not a big deal that its gravel.

All this to say, building the support and patio for the gazebo was a lot more work than putting the actual gazebo together.
We extended the patio out a few feet on one side , because we knew we wanted to add some kind of fireplace in the future.
Yardistry Gazebo Installation Tips
We found our kit at Costco, but you can also buy the same , if you dont have a Costco near you.
I wont try to reconstruct the instructions here but I do want to share some of the helpful tips we learned while we were putting it together.
This was one of the biggest builds weve ever attempted, and it took some time, but it wasnt hard. I guess what I mean by that is, if you can read an instruction manual and follow the steps closely, theyve engineered this thing really well and its totally do-able. Ive had more frustrating experiences than this, putting together IKEA furniture.
Take your time, have a buddy, and know that some day soon youll be sipping margaritas under your gazebo. Now lets get started!

Third Hand Is A Great Helper
One of the best tools or piece of equipment, that you will need and can use for other projects, around your house. You can use it to add cabinets, floating shelves, holding up your Gazebo Roof and so many other items. The 3rd hand can hold up to 150 lbs+, it can extend long enough to hold the roof upright.
The 3rd hand, is a must have when installing anything with a ceiling or something, that needs to be held upright.
You are able to assemble your Costco Gazebo alone, with just this pole. It will take some time and some finesse, but it is possible with the 3rd hand.
At first I was using a long stick, to hold up the roof panels, with the help of a ladder, to rest the bottom of the stick on. I had to get very creative, but I ended up getting smart and purchasing the 3rd Hand to help me with my gazebo roof attachment. Click Here3rd-hand

Wladyslaw’s Costco Yardistry Gazebo
When Wladyslaw purchased this year’s most popular gazebo, the 12 ft x 14 ft Yardistry Gazebo from Costco, he knew that he would need something to keep the bugs out of his beautiful new gazebo. Finding Mosquito Nets USA, he requested free netting samples, got a quote, and ordered as soon as his samples arrived in his mailbox!

1 piece of 12 ft x 51 ft Heavy-Duty Black Mosquito Netting
After having the gazebo constructed on his deck, Wladyslaw decided that he would screen the gazebo using a single piece of netting wrapping all the way around and overlapping at the front to create one entrance in and out of the gazebo. This would completely seal the gazebo from all bugs and allow easy access into the gazebo.To attach the netting, Wladyslaw used simple thumbtacks. Though we would recommend using staples over thumbtacks, thumbtacks are a very easy and inexpensive way to attach the netting and it looks like it is working out perfectly!
Since Mosquito Nets USA split Wladyslaw’s 12 ft x 51 ft netting piece into two sections: 8 ft x 51 ft and 4 ft x 51 ft, Wladyslaw used some of the extra netting to drape over the overlap at the entrance, further preventing any bugs from getting through that single entry point.
The gazebo looks wonderful and the netting is almost invisible from the inside! Wladyslaw will now enjoy the rest of his summer enjoy his new Costco Yardistry gazebo without being bitten by mosquitoes or annoyed by any bugs!

Assembling The Costco Gazebo By Yardistry
Unless your friends want to come over and help for a several hours, we recommend changing the order of operations from what the directions suggest.
You can build each of the sections separately by yourself, and then have a work party to assemble the whole thing.
A few months after assembly, we bolted the gazebo down to the concrete pads. Its hard for me to imagine the wind picking this thing up, but I sleep better at night knowing I wont wake up and find that its blown into the pond.

Styling The Costco Gazebo
of course, my Costco gazebo is not just a gazebo, its an outdoor living room.
I added , an outdoor sofa, chairs, an outdoor rug, coffee table, chandelier, and outdoor fireplace, as well as landscape planters. You can check out the finished Outdoor Living Room Reveal and shop the room here!
This will be our sixth Summer with it, and so far everything is holding up great! There are a few small rust marks on the roof and one small crack in one of the cedar posts, but nothing too concerning. I will probably stain it either this year or next to protect the wood.
I absolutely love my gazebo- I would say its one of the best investments weve made in our home and quality of life. It allows us to put the cushioned outdoor furniture out in April and leave it until October .

This is the time of year it starts feeling like summer, even though officially its still spring. Which means its time to get outside before it gets too hot to enjoy it! I cant wait to share this post with you today as part of Remodelaholics Get Out! Outdoor DIY Challenge.
We havent done much to our backyard since moving in two years ago, but this summer thats all about to change. As much as I love interior decor, I also love to get outside and enjoy the amazing Albuquerque weather as often as possible. What Is The Best Outdoor Gazebo
Were partial to our 12×12 model, of course. But Costco has featured other models in the past few years as well. Some friends bought and assembled the 12×14 version last Summer and are very happy with it.
And my Aunt and Uncle just installed the 11×13 gabled pavillion and love it. So its mostly a matter of space and budget.

Overall Impression: Very well built, with well written and thorough instructions. Not a build for the faint of heart. Worth every penny and hour spent building it.
Takeaway: All our friends that helped us with the final build now want one of their own. Choose friends who have no room in their backyard, or youll have to return the favor multiple times.
